Educational Psychology
Understand how learning actually happens, and design for it.
Learning is most effective when teachers understand how the human brain processes, stores and retrieves information. This course introduces the core principles of learning science and turns them into practical classroom decisions.
Across four modules you will explore memory, attention, motivation, cognitive load and prior knowledge; the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and how a growth mindset builds resilience; the evidence behind the widely debated concept of learning styles and how it differs from learning preferences; and practical strategies for differentiated instruction, multilingual learners and students with diverse learning abilities.
What you will be able to do
- Design lessons that work with memory, attention and cognitive load rather than against them
- Build motivating classroom experiences and encourage a growth mindset
- Distinguish learning styles from learning preferences and teach from the evidence
- Differentiate instruction for multilingual and diverse learners
- Create an equitable environment where every student can participate and succeed
